Questions to Ask

Item Description – Question Cheat Sheet

Use these questions for any simple object scene (Fry 1–400).


Core Questions (Ask Every Time)

  1. What is it?
  2. Where is it?
  3. What does it look like?

Optional Questions (Use Only If the Scene Gives the Detail)

  1. What color is it?
  2. What shape is it?
  3. What does it have?
    (line, mark, spot, corner up, piece off, lid, top, side, etc.)

State Questions (Only If It Applies)

  1. Is it open or closed?
  2. Is it wet or dry?

Always Useful

  1. What can you use it for?

Quick Rules

  • Ask only what the text clearly shows.
  • Repeat the noun in answers (avoid pronoun confusion).
  • Keep all questions concrete and literal.
  • Color/shape/state questions are optional.
